Whenever New Years rolls around, we all work hard to think of resolutions to keep for the next year; but it's important to make sure the resolutions are not only manageable, but don't demand you to drastically change your lifestyle. Who wants to go into a new year, let alone a new decade, with homework? (Not us.)

To make it a little easier on you, we've broken down 5 resolutions you can make for your home that can be carried out however, or whenever, you'd like! #HomeworkFree2020!

1. Declutter

We've probably all seen Marie Kondo and her KonMari Method, but it doesn't have to be that intense! It is key to keep only the things that bring you joy or are very necessary- if doing laundry doesn't bring you joy, we still suggest keeping the washing machine.

One of the many ways you can declutter is to go room-to-room and while parting with things that can be donated, also work on storing options for the things you are keeping. If you have stacks of DVDs, try keeping them organized in baskets or bins instead of stacked on the shelves. That way, even if a lot is staying, your space appears more organized.

2. Go a little greener

It's the simple things like turning the lights off as you're leaving the room, turning off the air conditioning when you're not home, or turning down the thermostat at night.

Another way to make your house a little greener? Natural cleaning products. Whether it's making your own or finding a brand that works for you, every little bit helps!

3. Weekly cleaning tasks

It's so easy to lose track of time and not realize that you've gone weeks without tidying or cleaning your space. These tips will help you stay on top of it without making you feel like you're taking up a full day to clean the house!

a. Get into the habit of doing the dishes, or loading the dishwasher, every night.
b. Store your immediate cleaning supplies (sponge, cleaning spray, duster, etc) in a carry-all so you can take it all with you from room to room.
c. One task at a time. Don't get distracted when you  notice something else that needs to be cleaned. Focus on finishing your current task before moving on to another in the same room.
d. Clean the floors last. With  oving through the cleaning process, and any additional dust or debris falling onto the floor, you don't want them to look like you've yet to clean them when, in fact, you had them sparkling.

4. Update your space

Re-arranging a room can make it feel like a whole new space. If you have things laid out exactly how you'd want them (good for you!), then try adding something something new to the room; a plant, new piece of artwork, etc. It's an easy way to refresh without breaking the budget.

5. Plan, plan, plan

Thinking of some things you'd like to change in your home, but they're bigger projects and who has the time? Try to plan far enough in advance to start saving for those projects. That way, if you decide to dive right in, or something unexpected happens, you've budgeted for it. 2020 is the year to take the stress out of homeownership!
